What’s New in the 2020 Chevy Camaro?

The new 2020 Chevy Camaro is low, sleek, and sinister. It’s a gorgeous car, with a look that practically shouts power and performance. Every inch of it has been designed for the kind of speed that lets you dominate on the track, but there are plenty of comfort-level features that make daily driving a pleasure.

The 2020 Chevy Camaro might have undergone a bit of a cosmetic upgrade in its latest incarnation, but what hasn’t changed is that the Camaro is still the kind of car that can make you feel nervous when you see it coming up behind you on the freeway.

The 2020 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2019 model-year refresh of the Chevy Camaro, which gave this muscle car an extra-menacing open grille and oddly placed flow tie, was met with some disapproval from fans. Ever responsive, Chevrolet listened to the discontent, and so the 2020 Camaro has been given yet another facelift.

The new 2020 front fascia takes the looks of the Camaro back from the controversial 2019 model redesign of the front grille and brings the car back into line with the classic Camaro look. Even with the new change, the front look is still the kind of car that makes a real statement driving around town and on the freeway. Yes, it just looks that menacing. Restyling aside, the 2020 Chevy Camaro is still part of the sixth-generation Camaro line that was introduced in 2016.

What’s Under the Hood for the 2020 Chevy Camaro

Camaro lovers know that the roar of the overpowered engine is half of the fun, and the 2020 Camaro doesn’t disappoint. The 2020 Camaro is a muscle car that backs up its aerodynamic styling with an engine that can get up to 650 horsepower with 650 lb-ft of torque. It has four powertrain options that range from super-responsive to NASA-launch levels of power and an ergonomically designed interior that makes driving this four-wheeled rocket a pleasure.

The Supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 engine that can be found under the hood of a 2020 Chevy Camaro is shown on a white background.

Choose from:

  • 2.0-liter turbo (standard on LS and LT trim levels)
    • 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque
    • Estimated 30 mpg/highway
    • Direct injection and variable valve timing
    • 0-60 in about 5.4 seconds
  • 3.6-liter V6 (available with the LT trim)
    • 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque
    • Direct injection and variable valve timing
    • 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission is available
  • 6.2-liter LT1 V8
    • 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque
    • Direct injection and variable valve timing
    • 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission is available on this trim level, too
    • 0-60 in about 4.3 seconds
    • Standard on Camaro LT1 and SS trims
  • Supercharged 6.2-liter V8
    • A magnificent 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque
    • Direct injection and variable valve timing to help improve fuel efficiency
    • 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission is available
    • Standard on Camaro ZL1 trim

No matter which powertrain you opt for, the naturally aspirated engine will pack the punch you expect from a Camaro, whether you opt for the baseline turbocharged 2.0-liter or any option all the way up to the SS model’s 6.2-liter V8.

Let’s Talk Trim Levels

The 2020 Camaro comes with your choice of five trim options that take your car exactly as far as you want it to go in terms of customization. And no matter what trim you choose, you get your pick of ten colors, including the new Shock and elegant Rally Green Metallic.

The LS trim starts with a base turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that offers a respectable 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission.

Going up to the LT trim (did we mention there are three levels of LT to choose from?) gets you options that go from standard 6-way power-adjustable front seats, 18-inch wheels, and available SiriusXM radio (1LT) to heated and cooled leather-appointed front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control (2LT). If you want to go for the full LT package, go all the way to the 3LT level where you get a Head-up Display, interior spectrum lighting, Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist, and Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, and the incredibly user-friendly Rear Camera Mirror.

Speaking of the Rear Camera Mirror, this is an upgrade that takes care of that perennial sports car problem, the tiny rearview mirror. Don’t worry about your rear view ever again: with cameras taking over the rearview; your sightlines aren’t compressed.

The LT1 trim, in Chevy’s own words, adds “the bold design and carefully considered refinement of LT” to “the V8-powered thrills of SS.” A Camaro LT1 will give you a horsepower upgrade to a whopping 455 HP. You’ll also get nice 20-inch wheels to cruise around on and high-quality Brembo front brakes. The LT1 trim also gives you a vented hood and badging unique to this trim level because your Camaro just needed a couple more things to look even cooler.

The SS trim level gets your Camaro track-ready with that tasty 6.2-liter V8 engine cranking out 455 horsepower, performance run-flat tires, and Brembo performance 4-wheel disc brakes. There’s a slight appearance change available for an SS Camaro with a concept-inspired grille so that the SS edition will be even more distinctive on the road.

The top-level trim, ZL1, is Camaro’s answer to a rocket. It packs a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that somehow manages to fit 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque under that sleekly-designed hood. Add that to RECARO seating and standard Brembo brakes, plus Magnetic Ride Control, and you have a very fast, very powerful car that will definitely serve you well on the racetrack.

There’s even a Camaro Convertible option if you want to really up your game. Just push a button, and the fully automatic soft-top disappears under the hard tonneau cover. It doesn’t matter if you’re driving or using the remote on your key fob to show off.

What’s the Performance Like for the 2020 Chevy Camaro?

We know what you’re thinking. Great aesthetics are great, but how’s the drive? Driving the 2020 Chevy Camaro is an exercise in pure joy. The car is incredibly responsive, with RPMs for days and impressive acceleration available from the V6 and V8 engine choices. When you step on the gas pedal, you’re immediately moving. Fast. It’s a Camaro, after all.

The 2020 Chevy Camaro marries that power to impressive handling. This is a car that follows where you point it. The adaptive suspension gives a decently smooth ride on top of that.

The 2020 Camaro couples that performance with an aggressively sleek interior design that includes comfy RECARO seats, HD backup cameras that take care of that classic sports car problem – the tiny rear windshield.

What kind of Technology Package does the 2020 Camaro have? Chevrolet Camaro doesn’t just dominate on the track. It also dominates in making life easier for the driver. The Chevrolet Infotainment 3 comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, connected navigation, and SiriusXM. The 8-inch infotainment screen is nice to use, too.

The Final Word on the 2020 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2020 Camaro is the kind of sports car that works as well in the real world as it does on the track. If you’re looking for reliable performance, distinctive style, and irrefutable power, you won’t regret a look at the new 2020 Chevy Camaro.
