Your 2022 GMC Lineup: The Future Looks Bright Behind the Wheel of a GMC

Did you know that GMC traces its roots to the early 1900s when Max Grabowsky sold his newly built truck to Detroit’s American Garment Cleaning Company? Eventually, Grabowsky saw his dreams come true as Grabowsky Motor Vehicle Company was renamed the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and produced 75 trucks in 1904 alone. Fast forward a few years, and the company caught the attention of General Motors founder William Durant who bought all of Rapid’s inventory and brought the company under the GM name in 1909. Coincidentally, the Rapid truck made history the same year by climbing to the top of Pikes Peak, thus proving the prowess and capability that would set the standard for the GMC brand. It’s this prowess and incredible legacy that you’ll find at your local GMC dealer today.

With over a century under GMC’s belt, the American automaker is at the top of its game, and it shows when you look at everything the 2022 lineup has to offer. GMC is known for offering premium vehicles with powerful engines, high-quality interiors, and plenty of versatility that make models like the Acadia, Terrain, Canyon, and Hummer among the brand’s best-sellers. So, what can we expect from these models in 2022? Intuitive tech, new standards of luxury, and so much more!

2022 Acadia

One of the most family-friendly SUVs you’ll find on the road, the 2022 Acadia has a lot to offer across its lineup, from the base SLE trim to the SLT, AT4, and Denali. For 2022, GMC extends the Acadia’s exterior paint color palette with Light Stone Metallic and gives you a choice between two new wheel designs – 18-inch or 20-inch. You’ll also find the model comes standard with GMC’s Pro Safety Plus package and Traction Select. The suite includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Front Park Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam headlights, Rear Park Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Acadia, which offers 79 cubic feet of cargo volume, is also a capable hauler and offers unique towing tools like Hitch Guidance with Hitch View. The SUV is powered by either a 2.0-liter turbo engine that delivers 228 horsepower or a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 310 horsepower, the latter of which reduces the SUV’s fuel economy of 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway to 19 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. As far as tech, GMC equips the Acadia with the latest tools, including an 8-inch color touchscreen display that’s home to the GMC infotainment system, navigation, Amazon Alexa, and a built-in WiFi hotspot.

AT4

One of the great features of the 2022 Acadia is that you can customize its design and performance with trims like the AT4. The AT4 gives the Acadia a rugged, off-road aesthetic with dark finishes and 17-inch gloss black wheels with all-terrain tires. The adventurous SUV also comes with GMC’s exclusive Active Torque Control AWD system that optimizes the SUV’s traction, which means you can confidently explore new terrain and get a little mud on the tires. With the 3.6-liter V6 engine, you’ll certainly have enough power to do so.

Denali

On the other end of the Acadia spectrum is the Denali, which is designed with luxury in mind. Like the AT4, the Denali features a unique exterior with chrome details, body-color lower moldings, LED headlamps, LED taillamps, and a dimensional grille that instantly sets it apart from every other Acadia in the fleet. Inside, the luxury continues with heated and ventilated leather seats in the front and heated leather seats in the second row. The steering wheel is also heated and wrapped in leather, which is a great convenience in those frigid winter months.

The Denali isn’t only luxurious; it’s also loaded with intuitive technology. We see this in the Adaptive Ride Control and the HD Surround Vision, the latter of which gives you a bird’s eye view around the SUV while the former ensures a smooth ride. The 8-inch driver information center is also one of the best in the segment and can be customized to your liking along with the crisp, Head-Up Display that puts all the data you need within eyesight. Other unique connectivity features include GMC’s navigation system, Amazon Alexa, and a wireless charging station that keeps the cabin clutter-free.

2022 Terrain

The Terrain sees some of the biggest updates in 2022. These updates start with a newly redesigned front end that boasts a new front fascia and grille along with redesigned LED headlamps, taillamps, and 18-inch or 19-inch wheels. The Terrain’s exterior paint options see the addition of Marine Metallic, Desert Sand Metallic, and Cayenne Red Metallic to the palette, while the interior offers new trims and fabrics. Beyond these aesthetic improvements, the Terrain will also see the addition of the AT4 trim to its lineup that decks-out the SUV for off-road adventures.

The Terrain’s many new upgrades for 2022 extend to its infotainment and connectivity suite with an available Tech Package that equips the SLT or the AT4 with an HD Surround Vision camera, Head-Up Display, and enhanced tools like Rear Park Assist. When it comes to power and space, the Terrain has plenty to offer with its 63.3 cubic feet of cargo room when you fold the rear seats. Under the hood, you’ll find a 1.5-liter turbo engine and a 9-speed automatic transmission. This combination delivers 170 horsepower, which is enough power to make the Terrain easy to handle and quick to respond whether you’re cruising at highway speeds or navigating rush-hour traffic in the city.

2022 Canyon

The Canyon might be the smallest truck in GMC’s lineup, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t wildly capable or powerful. The 2022 Canyon comes standard with a 2.5-liter engine and 6-speed transmission that delivers 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission to boost the truck’s capability to 308 horsepower, 275 lb-ft of torque, and a payload of 1,570 pounds on crew cab models. For heavy loads, you’ll want the Canyon outfitted with the 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine that delivers 181 horsepower, 369 lb-ft of torque, and a 7,700-pound max trailering capability.

For 2022, the Canyon sees several upgrades, including the stunning Denali Black Edition model that adds 20-inch low-gloss black wheels, all-weather floor liners, a GMC gloss black exhaust tip, and black assist steps. Other trims in the lineup include the Elevation Standard, Elevation, and AT4, the latter of which is designed for off-road adventures with its 31-inch Goodyear DuraTrac tires, 4WD system, and premium interior. The available AT4 Off-Road Performance Package adds a suite of off-road features like skid plates, rocker panel protection, exclusive badging, and a spray-in bedliner.

The Canyon’s trims share a suite of infotainment, connectivity, and safety features, many of which are found on the Terrain and Acadia. For example, you’ll find a 7-inch or 8-inch touchscreen display on the truck along with an available navigation system, built-in WiFi hotspot, and Amazon Alexa. Safety tools include a standard rear vision camera with the option to upgrade to a high-definition vision camera for a clearer view around the truck.

Its underbody armor protects the truck’s undercarriage from debris, while UltraVision gives you a clear view under and around the truck to make navigating the trail and obstacles a breeze.

The Hummer EV will deliver a wide range of power with its three-motor system that, when paired with the e4WD system, will deliver 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of instant torque to ensure you have all the power and traction you need right when you need it most. This power isn’t mutually exclusive with efficiency, with the Hummer EV promising a max 350-mile driving range on a fully charged battery. Add in tools like Super Cruise that allows you to take your hands off the wheel, and it’s easy to see why the 2022 Hummer EV has everyone’s attention.
