The Hummer EV Truck Will Change How You Feel About Electric Vehicles

GMC just blew up any negative prejudices you may have had towards electric vehicles with the introduction of the Hummer EV truck that will be rolling onto the lot of your local GMC dealer before you know it. We don’t quite know where to start as there are so many talking points. Listen, even hardcore truck enthusiasts who swear on gas engines will be impressed by what this Hummer will deliver. And anyone who has ever said any negative words concerning electric vehicles, you should stand prepared to eat those words. Let’s think about all of the stereotypes and myths associated with electric vehicles and smash them to pieces by utilizing the Hummer’s extreme capabilities. Once you have a full understanding of the abilities the Hummer EV promises, you will be standing in line at your local GMC dealer waiting for its arrival.

Golf Carts Are Faster Than Electric Vehicles

The older generation who grew up idolizing the muscle cars of the 1960s has a difficult time accepting the fact that an electric engine can produce more power than a 440 cubic-inch V8 engine. Part of this has to do with the fact that the first electric cars were indeed rather tepid on the open road and quite boring to drive. But we have come a long way, a very long way. Electric motors are quicker than their gas cousins because they generate 100 percent of their torque instantly. When you mash that accelerator on an electric vehicle, the power is instantaneous.

The only available powertrain for the Hummer EV is actually three sets of electric motors that produce a combined 1,000 horsepower. You read that correctly, 1,000 horsepower, which is most impressive in any engine, but especially in an electric motor setup. GMC estimates that the Hummer EV will take 3 seconds to go from zero to 60 mph. That makes the Hummer faster than many sports cars. We should also note that the Hummer has massive towing abilities as well.

Electric Vehicles Are Boring and Unsafe

Early versions of electric cars looked like what you might expect; tiny cars that look silly and could easily be crushed getting hit by a bicycle. Again, this is old news that you need to toss from your mind. Driving down the highway, many vehicles you spot are probably electric, and you wouldn’t even know it. In addition to electric cars, the roads are now filled with electric SUVs and trucks. And, it won’t be very long until you start seeing electric Hummers cruising the streets.

The Hummer EV is anything but boring and unsafe, even if it is an electric truck. The Hummer EV looks like a Hummer through and through; it has aggressive styling, it’s big, and it’s the type of vehicle that puts fear in other drivers. It’s a pickup truck, but the roof can be removed, and it resembles the t-top versions of your favorite 1970s sports cars.

The Hummer EV has some serious off-road chops, which is far from boring. It all starts with the massive 35-inch tires, which give the Hummer EV amazing ground clearance. Other off-road aspects of the Hummer EV include the independent front and rear suspension, full underbody armor, and the ability to Crabwalk, which is a setting that allows the rear wheels to turn up to 10 degrees in either direction, so you can literally drive diagonally to help navigate tight spots.

Electric Vehicles Only Function Best in Ideal Conditions

You have all probably heard about this myth; electric vehicles are only ideal for city driving and commuting to and from work. We have to agree with this assessment; electric vehicles are great for short commutes and driving around town running errands. However, it is also true that electric vehicles can be off-road beasts and can conquer rough terrain as well as poor road conditions. Whatever mother nature throws down, you bet an electric vehicle can take it.

We mentioned earlier all of the features and options that make the Hummer EV an off-road beast, but we shall revisit to ensure everybody fully understands the capabilities of this electric truck. The Hummer EV is powered by three electric motors that produce up to 1,000 horsepower and up to a mind-boggling 11,500 lb-ft of torque. If you compare that to some of the top off-road vehicles on the market, the Hummer EV is on the top of the list as far as power is concerned. That said, the Hummer EV is quite well-equipped and able to take on the roughest terrain. Of course, the massive ground clearance helps as well.

Electric Vehicles Don’t Go Far on One Charge

While it was true a time long ago that electric cars couldn’t travel very far without having to be recharged, the myth today is outdated. The truth is that electric vehicles have ranges that exceed the needs of the average driver. The typical American drives on average around 30 miles a day, which is far fewer miles than most electric vehicles can travel on one charge. Typically, an electric vehicle will get between 200 and 300 miles on a charge, which means you can actually drive for quite a while before having to plug it in.

GMC estimates that the Hummer EV will have a range of around 350 miles per charge, which is a lot higher than the average EV. At the lowest range, charging can deliver two to four miles of range for every hour of charging. This is typical when charging at home in a regular 120-volt outlet. Using available DC Fast Charging can deliver 60 to 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging.

Electric Vehicles are Small and Uncomfortable

We have all heard this myth, and some of your might still think it to be true. The truth is that modern EVs are just as spacious, roomy, and comfortable as any gas-driven car, truck, or SUV. And you can bet they all come with the same features and options that you enjoy in your gas-powered ride. In addition, all of the luxury features and convenience features in gas-powered luxury cars are shared in electric vehicles.

When you get behind the wheel of the Hummer EV truck, you will firmly believe you are driving a luxury model. You will enjoy transparent sky panels, rear drop glass, and a massive 13.4-inch display that serves as the infotainment system screen. The Hummer EV will also enjoy GM’s Super Cruise system, a hands-free driving system as a standard.

The Great Hummer Only Gets Better

Hummers were made famous when they were offered to the public as status symbols that reigned the highways and guzzled gas. While they were excellent military vehicles, the transformation to street rides was iffy at best. But that was at a different time, and much has changed over the years. The 2022 Hummer EV truck represents the return of the brand and a new generation in electric vehicles.

Without a doubt, the Hummer EV truck will make you think twice about owning an electric vehicle. In fact, it will make you look at EVs in a whole new light. And thanks to the off-road chops of this electric wonder, no adventure is out of the realm of possibility. Driving a new Hummer EV will still be a symbol of status, to be sure, but people will see you in a different light because you aren’t behind the wheel of a gas-guzzling truck. You are now a responsible vehicle owner doing your part to save the planet while tearing up the trails in style.
