Chevy’s 2021 Suburban: The Generation of the Future

Lovers of one of the most popular SUVs Chevy builds are about to get a serious upgrade in space, technology, and convenience. Lots of changes to the Chevy Suburban, inside and out, are going to make an already upscale ride into a luxurious transport with more cargo space than any other SUV on the road. Exciting additions like technology that can share information from screens in the back seat to the front, new air suspension to create a smoother ride quality, and powered folding seats which transform to a completely flat cargo area are just a few of the details to be found on the new 2021 Chevy Suburban.

This is an SUV that’s larger than any other on the road and has the power to back up its size. With three available engines and built on the same platform as the Chevy Silverado, the 2021 Suburban can tow up to 8,300 pounds. A four-corner adaptive suspension feature can lower or raise the vehicle to suit driving conditions. Cargo space of up to 144 cu.ft. can transport just about anything you need to move. If space, comfort, convenience, and toughness are what you need, the 2021 Suburban will more than fit the bill.

The Outer Looks

It goes without saying that the 2021 Suburban has upgraded in every way. Though the exterior dimensions’ extension isn’t significant, the Suburban has gained 1.3 inches in length and now has a longer wheelbase. If you’re already accustomed to driving a large vehicle, the slight change in length won’t be noticeable. What you will notice is the updated appearance of the Suburban overall, with LED lights for all the exterior lighting, a rear spoiler, and more modern details to bring this new generation of Suburban into an era of bling like never before.

If an available adaptive air suspension which can lower the vehicle so your passengers can more easily gain entry isn’t fancy enough for you, perhaps you’ll be impressed by the array of other features. These include rain-sensing windshield wipers, Intellibeam headlights that sense the headlights of oncoming traffic and automatically dim to low beams, or the powered liftgate that can be programmed to remember how high you want it to open. With all these features available on the base level trims, imagine what you gain with the upper trims.

For the off-road fanatics, you can purchase the Z71 trim, which offers better ground clearance, a two-speed transfer case to switch between driving modes to match road conditions, front skid plates, tow hooks, and 20-inch all-terrain Blackwall tires. If you go whole-hog and purchase the High Country, you get that adaptive air suspension, with upgrades to the overall exterior appearance like chrome details or a bronze grille and a panoramic sunroof. But whichever trim you choose, you will be getting a fantastic family vehicle.

Powerful Engines

Three engine options are available with the new 2021 Suburban, starting with the standard 5.3-liter V8, which produces 355 hp and can tow up to 8,100 pounds. Equip the trailering package, and any Suburban will capably tow a trailer with ease.

Also available is the 6.2-liter V8, which puts out 420 hp, and this engine may be better suited to the buyer who plans to drive with a fully-loaded vehicle while towing a trailer as it tows up to 8,300 pounds. The third choice of engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel the produces up to 277 hp. All of the engines have 10-speed transmissions and variable valve timing.

Inside the Walls

Appearance alone wasn’t enough of an upgrade for the 2021 Suburban. Chevy went all-out on technology and convenience features for the interior of this incredibly versatile SUV. Sitting in the command seat is more than just comfortable; it’s like being transported to the future.

Gone are the shift knob and the need to plug your phone into the vehicle. Buttons to the right of the steering wheel in the dash are the new means of shifting gears. With wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and charging as standard on every 2021 Suburban, you don’t need to plug in to have your phone connected. Don’t worry, there are traditional USB ports and charging stations throughout the vehicle in case you need them.

Conveniences like heated front seats, the option to have heated second-row seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, available powered folding second- and third-row seats, remote start, and available driver seat memory settings all add to the experience. And an available movable front console to safely store your valuables, plus WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities alongside the OnStar and the Chevy infotainment systems, will mean you can have more than the convenience of home while you’re driving.

Comforts like leather-appointed front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, powered front seats with lumbar control, available powered sliding second-row seats, an available panoramic sunroof, and the powered and programmable liftgate are just a few of the features to make life easier on the road. An available head-up display will further offer the ease of keeping your eyes on the road by providing information like speed, fuel, and navigation in a multi-color display on the windshield.

Cargo space has increased by 23 cu.ft. from the previous generation, largely due to the new suspension. With the smaller space needed for the suspension, it now goes back to the vehicle’s available cargo space in the trunk area, bringing it up to 144 cu.ft. when all the seats are folded flat. Even with the seats up, you have room in the trunk area for plenty of luggage, which can be easily organized with the cargo organizer that comes standard.

Infotainment and Safety

The tan interior and touch screen are shown in a 2021 Chevy Suburban.

The 2021 Suburban is wildly tech-oriented, with an infotainment system that every family will want to have, and safety features we could only imagine even five years ago. Every Suburban will come standard with a dashboard display that’s over ten inches in size, which is larger than most vehicles boast even when you hit the more expensive trims. A screen just over twelve inches comes with the High Country trim, and the available 12.6-inch screens for the backseat entertainment system are mounted to the back of the driver and front passenger seats.

Safety features are also generous, with an HD rear camera, auto emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, and intelligent high beams as all standard. Optional safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist with lane departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change alert, safety alert seat, HD surround vision, side blind zone alert, and OnStar safety and security are all available on upper trims.

Add to this the teen driver and rear seat reminder, both of which are standard, and this SUV will provide any family with the peace of mind you want in the modern age.

A Great SUV

The new 2021 Chevy Suburban has everything a modern family could desire in a vehicle, whether it’s room for everyone or tech to keep busy on long drives. And if luxury is your goal, the 2021 Suburban has all the conveniences of much more expensive models without the price tag. This is the model you want to buy if you’re a Suburban lover. No other Suburban has the blend of tech, space, and comfort of this generation, and there’s no better time to buy than right now.
