Breaking Down the 2021 Chevy Equinox Trims: What’s the Difference?

The new 2021 Chevy Equinox is a beautiful SUV. Chevy has certainly done their homework in providing a high-quality vehicle with premium finishes and leading technology at a price that’s affordable for many families. The Equinox is a beloved member of the Chevy SUV lineup, being the top-selling SUV for Chevrolet and even the overall second best-selling vehicle for General Motors. It’s easy to love the Equinox with its family-friendly features, large cargo volume, and technology that dazzles. The 2021 model of the Equinox is no different. It’s even better actually and is available in L, LS, LT, and Premier models. If all the letters are confusing, we’re here to clear it all up.

Let’s break down the key differences and highlights of each trim level of the 2021 Chevy Equinox. Obviously, the farther you move down the line, the more luxurious and packages are standard or available, but there’s more to say about each Equinox trim and what needs they meet. Let’s dive in!

2021 Chevy Equinox L

The Equinox L is the base trim of the 2021 Chevy Equinox. Chevy still packed this model with high-quality capabilities and features, though. The star of this model, really every model of the Equinox, is the Chevy Safety Assist, which includes six standard safety features. It includes automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, and Intellibeam. This is reassuring because even on the base model, drivers can enjoy premium safety features that were once only found in luxury cars.

As far as the exterior goes, the Equinox L has the basic and strong foundations the 2021 Equinox is built on. While it doesn’t have the availability for some of the exterior upgrades, it is still a quality SUV that’s built to last. In the interior, some features to note include a standard 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot capability, plus four standard USB ports. A quality 7-inch touchscreen makes the Equinox’s entertainment features more accessible. Active noise cancellation makes the ride more quiet and enjoyable, especially with all the hustle the outside world brings.

While you may be missing out on some stellar features in more upgraded models of the 2021 Chevy Equinox, the Equinox L is an excellent choice for a driver looking to save money or who doesn’t require all the bells and whistles. You don’t have to ‘settle’ for the base model because the base model includes many of Chevy’s best convenience and technology features as standard.

2021 Chevy Equinox LS

We take one step up to the Equinox LS and offer more capability that might be important to some drivers. For starters, there’s an available all-wheel drive on this model, and the LT and Premier models, that’s not available on the Equinox L. For drivers who require this capability, begin your search at the Equinox LS.

The differences between the Equinox L and Equinox LS fall in the upgrades available. You won’t really find additional features that are standard in the Equinox LS, but there is a fair share of features available to add on to the Equinox LS. On the exterior, you have the option to upgrade to a blackout or chrome package where there are specific details and accents matching the selected package. A few interior features available are a power driver seat, cargo accessories, and even a rear infotainment system complete with headrest screens and a DVD player. The cargo accessories could definitely come in handy with nearly 64 cu.ft. of cargo volume in the 2021 Chevy Equinox. Of course, keeping your rear passengers entertained always leads to a more peaceful drive.

The Equinox LS brings a decent jump in available features, even if they are upgrades you have to add on. If all-wheel drive is most important to you, the Equinox LS is a great way to get that component without paying for a fully upgraded Equinox.

2021 Chevy Equinox LT

It’s in the Equinox LT model where things really start to spice up. The Equinox LT model is where special editions are built from, and it has features that are only available on the LT and Premier models. It’s truly a big step in premium features, and we think it’s completely worth it.

The features on the Equinox LT get more convenient and premium. Some of the most prominent are the extra safety features available to add on. The Chevy Safety Assist features are standard, like every Equinox model, but you have the option to add an HD rear vision camera, lane change alert, rear park assist, and rear cross traffic alert. A power liftgate is available as an add-on as well as a panoramic power sunroof.

The Equinox Midnight Edition is based on the LT model and is as dreamy as it sounds. Beyond its deep, sleek mosaic black metallic color, there are 19-inch black gloss aluminum wheels, a black grille, and of course, the bowtie emblem is black. This edition also has an upgrade available for black leather-appointed seats. The Equinox Sport Edition has many of the same black accents as the Midnight Edition, but with a sporty exterior design offered in many exterior colors.

Overall, the Equinox LT has an elevated exterior and interior that you won’t find in previous models. There’s a mix between these features as standard and add-ons, but regardless, the Equinox LT works perfectly for those looking at the special editions or more standard premium features.

2021 Chevy Equinox Premier

We’ve saved the best for last. Really, this model of the Equinox truly lives up to its name. It’s premier in every sense of the word. Many of the features that were add-ons to the LT model are standard on the Equinox Premier, like the power liftgate and HD rear vision camera. There’s a whole slew of features that are only available on the Equinox Premier, and it truly makes it feel like a luxury SUV.

Keeping with safety, the Equinox Premier has the capability for HD surround vision, a safety alert seat, and adaptive cruise control. All of those extra safety features we mentioned as add-ons on the Equinox LT are standard on the Premier model. Leather-appointed seats are standard on the Equinox Premier, plus ambient interior lighting and a larger touchscreen than other models. On the outside, the Premier has chrome accents and an elevated design, like LED headlamps and taillamps, that sets it apart from other Equinox models.

It’s easy to love the Equinox Premier because it has all of the features and premium components to make you feel like you’re driving luxury without paying a luxury price. That’s exactly who the 2021 Chevy Equinox Premier is for. We believe this Equinox model has many premium features that rival luxury SUVs, and you still get to benefit from the incredible track record Chevrolet vehicles come from.
