The Eight Coolest Features of the Ford Mustang Mach-E

When Ford first announced that it was taking the name of its legendary pony car and giving it to an all-electric crossover SUV, there were plenty of skeptics and naysayers. Five years later, you can still find the Mustang Mach-E for sale at dealers across the country, and the model has a growing horde of fans ready to take on the critics.

Looking at the performance side, it’s hard to argue that the Mach-E hasn’t earned the Mustang name. After all, the GT and Rally trims of the 2025 model have 0-60 mph times that actually beat the Mustang Dark Horse, despite the latter having not only a sleek body style but also a powerful V8 engine. That’s thanks to the near-instant torque of electric motors and the way this model has been designed to maximize speed, with an almost coupe-like appearance that’s much sleeker than the exterior of the average SUV.

Now that the Mustang Mach-E has been around for a few years and has established itself, we want to look beyond its electric motors and dig into some of its other features. After all, there are a lot of other components that can impact your experience owning and driving a vehicle. So today, we’re going to explore eight cool features of the Mustang Mach-E that you might not have known about.

#1. Sporty Appearance Options

Looks may not be everything, but they do go a long way when it comes to the cool factor. Ford has gone out of its way to make the Mustang Mach-E live up to its iconic name with not just the famous logo but also a sleek silhouette that looks more like a pony car than your run-of-the-mill SUV. These styling cues give the model a good base to build on, and there are plenty of options that let you personalize your ride.

The Sport Appearance Package adds glossy black accents and bright red brake calipers, while the Bronze Appearance Package goes for a classier look with metallic elements like wheels, door badges, and grille. The top-tier Rally trim takes the Mach-E’s athletic aesthetic even further with a racing stripe on the hood and deck lid that screams “speed.”

#2. Drainable Frunk

Most EVs store their powertrains beneath the vehicle rather than under the hood, allowing them to replace the engine with storage space. While this frunk (front trunk) might be stuck with a pretty uncool name, the one on the Mustang Mach-E has a feature that’s literally cool: it’s lined with hard plastic and is drainable, which allows it to be filled with ice and used as a cooler so you can bring frosty drinks with you wherever you go. This can also come in handy for outdoorsy people who want to store muddy hiking boots or dusty picnic blankets somewhere that’s secure and easy to clean between adventures.

#3. Standard Heat Pump

One fear some EV-curious drivers have is getting poor performance in cold weather. Ford has responded to these concerns by adding a vapor injection heat pump as standard equipment across the Mustang Mach-E lineup. Heat pumps are basically systems to move heat around, so you can take heat from where it builds up naturally (like around the battery of an EV) and move it to places that aren’t hot enough (like the cabin of a car on a cold winter day). This is energy-efficient because you’re making use of heat that’s already there instead of creating extra, and it helps optimize battery performance in cold weather.

#4. BlueCruise

Hands-free driving systems have been becoming more common in recent years, but they’re still new and futuristic-sounding enough to continue to have some “cool” cache among tech-loving drivers. Ford’s BlueCruise is one example of this trend, a feature that combines various simpler driver assistance tools (like adaptive cruise control and automatic lane-centering), allowing the car to drive along without user input under the right circumstances.

Don’t call it a “self-driving car” just yet, though. If you’re behind the wheel, you still need to be paying attention and ready to take over control at any time. Still, being able to take a more hands-off approach to long stretches of driving on the highway can make long drives a lot less stressful. New for the 2025 model year, Mach-E models with BlueCruise will now be able to make automatic lane changes, so you can drive even further without needing to interfere.

#5. Virtual Key

Car keys have evolved a lot over the years. First, they were physical keys you had to insert into a lock on the door and turn, then buttons were added so you could lock and unlock doors from afar with the fob, and then push-button start eliminated the need for a physical key at all. Where do we go from there? How about not needing a key fob at all? The Mustang Mach-E has jumped on this latest step forward and has a feature that allows you to use your smartphone as a virtual key. You don’t even have to take your phone out of your pocket since the system can automatically unlock your door as you approach.

#6. MagneRide Damping

With a sporty car, you want to have a smooth ride even at high speeds. The two top-tier trims of the Mustang Mach-E use a MagneRide damping system to offer just that. The GT has a basic system, while the Rally trim has a special Rallycross-tuned version that can handle a wider variety of driving scenarios. Whichever version you have, the adaptive system will respond to changes in the road surface in real time so you can get a comfortable ride even if you hit a stretch of asphalt that’s due for repaving.

#7. Driver Recognition

Ford wants you to feel special every time you get behind the wheel of your Mustang Mach-E. To help make that happen, they’ve created a driver recognition feature (which works as long as you have a profile set up in the FordPass app on your smartphone) to give you a high-tech welcome every time you approach the vehicle.

Pony projection lamps illuminate so you can find your way to the vehicle in the dark and avoid any sneaky puddles that might be hiding near the driver’s door. In addition to being practical, it’s also fun to get a reaction from your vehicle just by approaching. Step inside, and the feature will automatically adjust the seats, mirrors, ambient lighting, and infotainment system to your preferred settings, so you can be ready to ride right away, even if your shorter partner or taller roommate has recently taken your ride out for a spin.

#8. Karaoke

Let’s round out the list with a feature that’s just pure, unadulterated fun: karaoke. This feature doesn’t work while the Mach-E is in motion, for obvious reasons. (Singing while driving is a time-honored pastime, but reading lyrics off of a screen while you do it is an accident waiting to happen.) While you’re parked, however, you can choose from a selection of over 80,000 songs and have lyrics displayed on the 15.5-inch center touchscreen. Between this feature and the ability to stream YouTube videos, there’s plenty to do while waiting ten minutes for DC fast charging to do its thing.
