Rundown: The 2019 Cadillac CT6

If you’re interested in buying a luxury sedan these days, there are a lot of different options out there for you to choose from. Of course, when one thinks of the word “luxury,” there’s a pretty good chance that the word “Cadillac” is quick to follow. The Cadillac brand, for a lot of people, has been the definitive American luxury car for decades, so you may be looking into a Cadillac luxury sedan. If so, it wouldn’t take you very long to notice the 2019 Cadillac CT6 and everything it has to offer.

To get a perfect sense of what the CT6 is packing and how it all comes together, we’re going to take a look at four things. First, we’ll talk about the two different engines that are available with it and what each of them has to offer. Then, we’ll take a look at the three different trim levels that you can choose from. Each trim level is different, in terms of performance, interior luxury, technology features, and overall safety functions. By the end of it, we should have a pretty good idea of what the 2019 Cadillac CT6 has to offer for you.

Two Engines to Consider

As we look at the 2019 Cadillac CT6, let’s start with what’s under the hood. This is important for two big reasons: first, the engines are dictated by trim level, and second, the performance you get with this luxury sedan will depend greatly upon the engine. Rather than bury the important information about these two engines deep in the different trim sections, I thought it’d be easiest to drag them up here and see what’s what.

The first engine is a 3.6L V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which provides up to 335 hp and 284 lb.-ft. of torque. It has an automatic stop/start functionality to improve fuel economy. There are also paddle shifters on the steering wheel so you can take some manual control over the transmission. Estimated fuel economy with this engine is 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

If you want some serious power in your luxury sedan, then consider the available 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 engine. This engine is also paired with the same 10-speed automatic transmission, which offers up to 404 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. You get the same stop/start functionality and paddle shifters with this engine, and it has an estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. There is a third engine available on the Platinum, but it’s not standard, and in somewhat limited supply, so I’m not going into it here. Keep on reading for more information down below.

The 2019 Cadillac CT6 Premium Luxury

The first of three available trim levels for the 2019 Cadillac CT6 is the Premium Luxury, which comes with the 3.6L V6 engine standard. It’s important to note that you cannot change the engines in these models, so the trim level you choose dictates what engine you end up with. The Premium Luxury includes keyless start and engine sound enhancement, along with All-Wheel Drive(AWD) and Power-Assist Steering.

This model comes with a 10-inch touchscreen Infotainment display with numerous USB ports, an auxiliary input, and support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has a 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround sound system, a wireless charging station, and 16-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats. It features leather details throughout, including a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, and it has an 8-inch driver information display.

Safety features for the CT6 Premium Luxury include Front Pedestrian Braking, Low-Speed Forward Automatic Braking, and Forward Collision Alert. It also has eight airbags, HD surround vision, and a Following Distance Indicator. Finally, the Premium Luxury also includes a Rear Pedestrian Alert, Lane-Change Alert with Side Blind-Zone Alerts, and Lane Keep Assist with a Lane Departure Warning.

The 2019 Cadillac CT6 Sport

By comparison, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Sport comes with the impressive 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 engine standard for a much more powerful experience overall. It has All-Wheel Drive and keyless start, just like the Premium Luxury, as well as engine sound enhancement and the same suspension. In other words, from a mechanical perspective, the difference between these two trims is the engine.

Interior Features for the CT6 Sport are essentially the same, with only a few differences. The Sport features a 10-inch Infotainment display with the same inputs and ports. It has a 10-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround sound system, wireless charging station, and other luxurious features. One interior difference, however, is that the steering wheel paddle shifters for the Sport are magnesium, rather than the standard ones in the Premium Luxury.

Safety features are also the same with the Sport and the Premium Luxury, including Front Pedestrian Braking, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and Forward Collision Alert. Exterior details and moldings are different between them, so the Sport has a more distinct look to it. But ultimately, the engine is the primary difference here.

The 2019 Cadillac CT6 Platinum

The differences with the CT6 Platinum, however, are substantial and noteworthy throughout the vehicle. For one thing, the Platinum has the more powerful 3.0L Twin Turbo V6 engine, like the Sport. But also includes Magnetic Ride Control, Active Rear Steering, and Advanced Adaptive

Cruise Control – all of which are available features for the other two trims, but not standard. Furthermore, the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Platinum also has a Head-Op Display.

That’s not the only significant difference inside the Platinum, however, since it has a 12-inch driver information display, 20-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats, and tri-folding rear bench seating. The Platinum also features a mind-blowing Bose Panaray 34-speaker audio system for rich, orchestral sound quality that cannot be beaten. In addition, it has an HDMI input module and heated rear seats for good measure.

Safety features are primarily the same between these different trim levels, though the 2019 Cadillac CT6 Platinum does have a couple of extras included. The Platinum trim comes with both Forward and Reverse Automatic Braking, rather than only forward, along with a night vision system for improved safe driving with poor lighting. You also get the Super Cruise Driver Assistance feature with the Platinum for enhanced overall safety and performance with cruise control.

One last note: according to Cadillac, a Platinum model is available with a 4.2L Blackwing Twin Turbo V8 engine, much like the one in the limited CT6-V model. This will produce up to 500 hp for incredible overall performance, but you won’t find this everywhere. Since it’s not guaranteed that you can get this engine, I left it out of my overall analysis of this vehicle.

Final Analysis

At the end of the day, this is an incredible luxury sedan that boasts a lot of power under its hood and features that would make most other vehicles quite jealous. The 2019 Cadillac CT6 certainly isn’t cheap, which is to be expected, but you get a lot for the money. When looking at different models and trim levels to choose from, the engine you prefer will be the biggest deciding factor.

If you want the more powerful engine, then either the Sport or the Platinum is the way to go. With the Platinum, you pay a lot more, but the standard features are spectacular. Ultimately it’s going to come down to your budget and what you’re looking for. If you want a luxurious sedan, then you really can’t go wrong no matter which trim you choose.
