A Look Inside the 2019 Chevy Silverado

You have no doubt heard the line “most dependable, longest lasting truck on the road” on television or radio at some point in the last twenty years. That ubiquitous slogan has been applied to GM trucks for a long time now, particularly those in the Chevy family, and most specifically to the Chevy Silverado. That line isn’t just clever advertising. It is a tried and true testament to the rugged durability of the Chevy Silverado. The 2019 Chevy Silverado lives up to the long tradition that Chevrolet has spent more than a century cultivating. While the Chevy Silverado, as its own nameplate, did not come into being until the turn of the 21st century, Chevy has been producing high-quality and high-performance trucks since the 1920s. These trucks have served countless workmen, hauled millions of loads and towed millions of pounds of trailers and their cargoes. The reputation that Chevy has as a workhorse is well earned and well deserved.

Despite the fact that Chevy continues to lead the American pick-up truck market, they still cater to the working man. With an MSRP of only $28,300, the 2019 Chevy Silverado is affordable as a work truck, as a getaway vehicle, even as a family truck. It has the power to get from one work site to the next, hauling whatever will fit in the bed. It has the towing capacity and technology to get the boat to the lake for a long weekend. It even has the modern technology to keep drivers of all age safe and happy. And it does so without a hefty price tag.

ENGINE

The 2019 Chevy Silverado comes with three available engines across five basic trim levels. The base 2.7 liter turbo engine comes standard on the LT and RST trim levels. It gets 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. This inline 4-cylinder engine is brand new for the 2019 Chevy Silverado. That base engine is plenty powerful for a truck this size. But Chevy didn’t stop there. Standard on the LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country trim levels is a 5.3 liter V-8 engine getting even more horsepower, 355 horses to be exact, and generating 383 lb-ft of torque. This engine also gets the best fuel economy of the three, at 18 city miles per gallon and 24 highway miles. However, Chevy still wasn’t done. Available on the LTZ and High Country as an optional engine is the 6.2 liter V-8 with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. These engines rank as the most advanced in the long, storied history of Chevy performance.

But Chevy still wasn’t done. In addition to these revolutionary and powerful engines, Chevy introduced the Dynamic Fuel Management System. A successor to its Active Fuel Management system introduced in 2005, the Dynamic Fuel System enhances power delivery and efficiency like never before.

“Chevrolet first introduced its Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system in 2005, and Dynamic Fuel Management is a natural progression of the technology,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer. “Dynamic Fuel Management enables only the cylinders needed to deliver the power you want, seamlessly delivering the best balance of power and fuel economy.”

The Dynamic Fuel Management system comes in the 5.3 liter and 6.2 liter engines. That kind of power, efficiency, and torque can lend itself to some pretty powerful towing capacity.

TOWING

The largest of the 2019 Chevy Silverado’s engines, the 6.2 liter V-8, has a maximum towing capacity of 12,500 pounds. That’s the equivalent of 7 smart cars. While most people will be hauling more useful cargo than smart cars, that just gives you a size and weight comparison. While that towing capacity is impressive enough, Chevy outdid themselves with the available towing packages. The advanced Towing Package features Hitch Guidance, which allows the driver to use the Rear View Camera to aid in aligning the hitch with the trailer; Auto Electric Parking Brake Assist keeps the truck from moving once the driver has aligned it to the hitch; Trailer Light Test, which allows the driver to use the app to ensure that all lights are connected properly and legally, instead of having to use the buddy system;  Tire Pressure Monitoring keeps an eye on the tire pressure of the trailer tires and lets you monitor it through the infotainment center; Trailer Theft alert is a new technology that will alert you, via the app, text or email, that your trailer has been disconnected without your authorization. This app comes standard on the LTZ and High Country trims, and is optional on LT, RST, and Trail Boss levels.

The Trailer Camera Package is even further peace of mind available on the LTZ and High Country trim levels. Along with the Rear View Camera, which shows the hitch and trailer, two more cameras are mounted in the side mirrors, allowing the driver 270 degrees of visibility through the dash monitor. It is clear that General Motors made towing a high priority for the 2019 Chevy Silverado.

TECHNOLOGY

People who employ the 2019 Chevy Silverado as a work truck spend a lot of time in it. It is a home on the road, sometimes for hours at a time. To that end, Chevy has included many available features to make your commute more comfortable. The truck is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, allowing access to your smartphone through the infotainment center and the MyLink app. This gives you access to your calling, text messages, navigation, music and weather, all hands-free.

The 2019 Chevy Silverado is not just a work truck, however. Full and mid-sized trucks have also become family friendly. This vehicle has Wi-Fi connectivity for up to seven devices for the members of your family that like to stay connected. For the members of your family just learning to drive, the 2019 Chevy Silverado also features Teen Driver technology. Among its many perks are warnings if a teen driver exceeds a pre-set speed and putting any music on mute if the seatbelts are not properly buckled in. Having a teen driver is nerve-wracking, but having that peace of mind offers a little more faith in them and your truck.

WHY THE 2019 CHEVY SILVERADO?

Chevy went to great lengths to strengthen the 2019 Chevy Silverado and make it a leader in engine performance and towing technology. The Chevy Silverado has a long and indisputable history of serving the working man with the highest quality work truck. The 2019 Chevy Silverado is yet another chapter in this legendary book.

With its groundbreaking engine technology, including the introduction of Dynamic Fuel Enhancement, to its well-defined towing enhancements, the 2019 Chevy Silverado is sure to stand out as a king in the pick-up truck world. It has the power to get you and whatever massive haul you are towing around the world and back. It has done it for decades and will undeniably continue to make the work truck the focal point of its Silverado nameplate.

But, there are times when your world is in that truck with you. And other times when that world is in your truck without you. In those times, the 2019 Chevy Silverado becomes less of a power machine and more of a guardian angel on 17-inch steel wheels. For that, you can be thankful.
