2020 Ram 1500 Special Editions: An American Aesthetic

As the awards for the 2020 Ram 1500 keep piling up, Ram has thankfully released special editions for the ever-growing Ram enthusiast base. The special-edition Ram trucks isolate specific characteristics of the Ram 1500 and emphasize these strengths. Whether you want to honor the five branches of the armed services, prefer the color black, love to get lost on forest service roads or trails, or are feeling regional and live in the southwest or northern latitudes, Ram has a special edition designed just for your aesthetic.

These are stylish trucks that maximize capability, technology, and efficiency while creating a Ram 1500 model with more comfort and refinement. If a vehicle is an extension of your personality, then these are some expressive buyers. Each special edition is as handsome as the next and just as loaded with state-of-the-art features tailored just for you. These are models that demand a second take because they are that interesting. So let’s take a look at the different special editions released by Ram for the 2020 model year.

2020 Ram 1500 Built to Serve Edition

The Built to Serve special editions are designed to pay homage to our men and women in the American Armed Services. These are special editions meant to honor those who are serving or who have served—and with distinction. Though this isn’t just for those who have served, necessarily, this is meant to be more of a maxim that the military and civilians alike can be proud of and stand behind: Built to Serve. It’s a call to serve the community and make a difference in whatever way you can. You will be able to spot one of these by the prominent American flags easily along with “Built to Serve” on the rear fenders.

Features include 20-inch alloy wheels in Technical Gray, a blacked-out grille, black bumpers, and blacked out lighting surrounds. Black badges, black side steps, and black exhaust tips are also included for the exterior stylings. Off-road features are also part of this package: a raised ride height, heavy-duty shock absorbers, a locking rear differential, skid plates, and hill-descent control. There will be a run of about 4,500 made for this limited edition, and you’ll be able to tell which branch of the military each represents by the color. The colors offered are Gator and Diamond Black (Army), Ceramic Gray and Patriot Blue (Navy), Anvil and Billet Silver (Air Force), Tank and Flame Red (Marines), and Spitfire and Bright White (Coast Guard). This model has its origins in the Ram Nation volunteer organization, which began as a way to give Ram truck owners a chance to get involved when there’s a need.

Other features include sport seats with custom stitching, Mopar all-weather slush mats, and branch-specific accent colors. The package will run close to $3,000 and is based on the Bighorn trim, which can be paired with all powertrains.

2020 Ram 1500 Southwest Edition

The Southwest Edition is Ram recognizing that Texas and America’s Southwest have long been the center of the truck universe. This special edition is available in Texas and its surrounding states, though check with your local dealership as “southwest” could include other states as well. It certainly has all the amenities a Texan could want. With this model, expect some serious cowboy class.

What’s included with the Southwest Edition? It’s similar to the Laramie trim, but with some notable differences. You’ll find a massive 12-in Uconnect infotainment system, and a dual-pane moonroof to start. You’ll also find an electronic trailer brake controller and 20-inch wheels with a polished finish. There’s also a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technology, such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and ParkSense front and rear parking assist. You’ll also find a cool feature: power running boards.

With this model, you have the choice of all available engines. This includes the entry-level Pentastar V6, the Hemi V8, and the EcoDiesel V6. You can also choose between quad or crew cab and two choices of bed length. Having the option to customize the powertrain and cab and bed configurations is a real bonus, as now you can get everything you want from this model—the cowboy flair at a lower price than the top Laramie trim.

Other features include body color bumpers, moldings, mirrors and grille surround, automatic high beams, trailer brake control, remote tailgate release, and rain-sensing wipers. There is no shortage of style and advanced tech on board for your daily chores on the ranch and nights out on the town.

2020 Ram 1500 North Edition

One of the most popular packages in the northern part of the United States, the North Edition brings cold-weather content and four-wheel drive. This is more than just a good-looking pickup truck; it’s built to get you through the elements. To start, there’s a factory lift for when the snow piles high, and a locking rear axle for when the road ahead hasn’t been cleared, and all-weather tires for even more confidence.

Other standard features for the 2020 Ram 1500 North Edition include: a new “4×4 North” decal design, auto-dimming exterior driver mirror, e-Locker rear axle, and an engine block heater, of course. When you’re happy to see 0 degrees, it’s probably time to start thinking about an engine block heater. With the North Edition, you’ll also find useful features such as front extra HD shock absorbers, a full-size spare tire, hill descent control, LT275/65R18C OWL on/off-road tires, power-folding mirrors, power heated mirrors, rear extra-HD shock absorbers, and tow hooks. This model is available with all powertrains, so you can outfit it with the diesel engine for exceptional handling in the snow with all of that torque.

2020 Ram 1500 Night Edition

A white 2020 Ram 1500 Black Edition is driving on an empty road at sunset.

The Night Edition features a monochromatic exterior with blacked-out wheels, badges, and a blacked-out grille and exhaust tips. This package is available on the Big Horn trim (with 20-inch wheels), and the Laramie trim (with 22-inch wheels). A striking first impression and a premium interior is the best way to characterize this model. Also available is the Ram 1500 cat-back exhaust, where you can feel the rumble of the deep exhaust tone. This is designed to work with the 5.7L HEMI V8 engine and is available through Mopar. The Night Edition is available with all powertrain options.

2020 Ram Rebel Black Appearance Group

If you are looking for a stealth model, this is it. With a Diamond Black Crystal Pearl exterior and black 18-inch wheels, front spoiler, skid plate, badges, tow hooks, exhaust, and headlamp bezels, this is a trim designed for the night, with everything blacked out. Standard is a blacked-out interior, and buyers can also opt for a black and red theme. Now the Rebel trim has a look to match its fierce off-road chops.
